You Are Not Alone

I don't really know what to say about this one. I could not get into it at first. I got to 25% and set it down for months. At times it is long and seems to go nowhere. But in the end I can appreciate the cleverness woven throughout. It's an interesting enough story, although maybe a bit far-fetched. The characters felt real. Lots of twists and turns. I can't wait to read more from these two! Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC. 4/5.

The Wives

Thursday is crazy about her husband Seth. So crazy, in fact, that it doesn't matter that he has two other wives and that she's never met them. But one day Thursday finds something that unravels her whole world. This book grabbed me right from page one. The writing is descriptive, the characters are three-dimensional. I felt like I was there, watching everything unfold. There are plenty of twists and turns. I had lots of different feelings about the characters and the situations. A very interesting page-turner. Loved it! 5/5.

Till Death Do Us Part

Alice Tandy's wedding day has finally arrived. She has been dreaming of this day since she was young. Everything is going exactly as she had planned.. except she hadn't planned on her new husband, Ben, being arrested as they're cutting their wedding cake. The next day Ben is released on bail but Alice's nightmare is just beginning. Who killed Kerry Valentine? And how many secrets is Ben keeping from her? Unpopular opinion here, but I hated this book. When I began reading I just knew that I wasn't going to be gripped at any point. At 20% I began skimming. And when I got to the big reveal I just wished I listened to myself at about 20% and put it in my DNF pile. There is absolutely nothing I liked about this book. I didn't particularly enjoy the writing, I didn't like the characters and there was lots of filler. An unbelievable story. Thank you to Netgalley and HarperImpulse & Killer Reads for an ARC. 1/5.

The Girl from Widow Hills

Arden Maynor was only young when she was swept away while sleepwalking. She was missing for days and was eventually found alive, clinging to a storm drain. She was a living miracle, but fame took its toll and when she was old enough she changed her name and disappeared from the public eye. She's now known as Olivia and is living hundreds of miles away from the place she grew up. But the twentieth anniversary of her rescue is coming up and the media will no doubt have something planned. She feels like she's being watched, she begins sleepwalking again - something that hasn't happened in a long time. One night she wakes up outside her home and finds a corpse at her feet. I'll admit I had trouble getting into this one at first. The writing seemed abrupt and disjointed. But I kept plugging away and eventually I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. I'll also admit that I did not read the part about the corpse on the blurb so I was really excited when I read about tha...

You Can't Catch Me

Jessica Williams has just been fired from her investigative journalism job for plagiarism. She decides to go to a resort in Mexico to escape the press coverage. While waiting at the airport, she finds a woman with the exact same name. After playing a game of twenty questions to see what other similarities they share, they exchange contact information. When Jessica returns home from Mexico, she discovers large cash withdrawals have been made from her bank account and that Jessica Two is the one who took the money. After doing some digging, convinced she's pulled this scam before, Jessica is determined to catch Jessica Two by reaching out to other Jessica's on Facebook. When she gets some responses from other victim's, she sets a plan in motion. I love when I read the first few words of a book and already know I'm going to love it. Everything this author writes is so good, she has such talent! Everything about this novel is interesting - Jessica's upbringing, all the ...

Don't Look for Me

Molly Clarke's car is found abandoned miles from home, her phone is left behind. She has left a note at a nearby hotel. She has simply walked away from her life, her family. But someone isn't convinced that's what really happened. I love the cover. This is an author, for me, that I already know the book is going to be good before I even crack the cover. I wasn't disappointed. I loved everything about this one - the characters are three-dimensional, the setting is a little eerie, the situations are heartbreaking. The writing is great and the whole story flows well. I couldn't wait to find out what was going on! It was twisty and I didn't see anything coming. A page-turner that kept me reading until early morning. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC. 5/5.

Date Night

The writing wasn't that great, the whole story was boring and slow and unbelievable. The characters were unlikable. Libby needed to grow a backbone. I started skimming just before the halfway point. Should've stopped reading altogether. Lame ending. Ugh. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC. 1/5.

Woman on the Edge

I won a copy of this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you to Simon & Schuster Canada for my copy. Who is this woman who hands her baby to a stranger before she jumps in front of a train?! Are they really strangers? This was a fast-paced, suspenseful page-turner. The characters were developed and I couldn't help but feel for them. I had this book sitting on the shelf for a few months and I'm really sorry I waited to read it. I spent every moment I could reading this, I could not get enough! 4/5.

The Dilemma

This did not seem like a B.A. Paris novel. Very disappointing. I wanted to know what was going on, but after a while the story just dragged and I was nowhere near as interested as I was at the beginning. There was no big twist, nothing to make it stand out and be a great read that'll stick in my mind long after. I liked the plot and I liked that it was told from the husband's point-of-view as well as the wife's. But unfortunately this is a forgettable book for me. Thanks to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC. 3/5.

The Stranger in Our Bed

I ended my marriage for a man who didn’t exist… Sounds interesting, right? I wish it was. This turned out to be boring, repetitious and far-fetched. Lots and lots of filler. I couldn't bring myself to even come close to finishing it. Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC. 1/5.

The Favorite Daughter

Jane Harris has the perfect home located in an oceanfront gated community. She has the perfect family. But one year ago Jane's oldest daughter, Mary, died and she's been grieving and getting through the days in a haze of anti-depressants. But all that's about to change. It's time to live again. A memorial has been planned for Mary and three days after that her youngest daughter, Betsy, is going to graduate high school. It seems as though Jane's husband and daughter have changed in the last year. They're difficult, unlike Mary who was always such a good girl. Jane thinks there's something up and that someone knows more about the night Mary died. I loved "Best Day Ever" so I was very excited to get my hands on this book. I was not disappointed at all! I writing was excellent. The main character got under my skin. If you loved "Best Day Ever" or love psychological thrillers do not hesitate to pick this one up! I don't even...

Dear Wife

Beth Murphy has been preparing for this day for almost a year, she's given this plan a lot of thought. One small slip and her husband will find her. A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home to an empty house. His wife, Sabine Hardison, is missing. She has taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have. They're searching for leads but the case isn't that simple. Who's Beth? Where is Sabine? The detective on the case will stop at nothing to bring the missing woman home. This gripped me from page one. It's a well-written, suspenseful and compulsive read. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The characters felt real to me and their situations made me feel many different things. The desperation was definitely palpable. There's one part in the book where I literally said 'oh my God!' So Good! 5/5.

The Perfect Roommate

Meadow's poor and an introvert and she has found an ad looking for a roommate. She's on her way to check out the place and meet her potential new roommate, Lauren. Lauren is everything Meadow isn't - wealthy, stylish, pretty, sophisticated. But Meadow is in luck; Lauren wants her to be her roommate and also invites her into her social circle. Meadow's thinking she could get used to this, and she likes her new friend - until she catches her doing something she shouldn't be doing. This was on my wishlist for a while and I wanted it so bad and I have no idea why I never got it. I was over the moon when I found it in my daily email for book deals and it was free! I was hooked from the very first page. The writing is great and it's fun. The characters felt real, they were not without quirks. There's lots of uneasiness and tension. I could relate to Meadow more than I'd like to admit. A very entertaining page-turner. I'm sorry I didn't re...

The Marriage Trap

This starts off with Karla watching her husband pack his suitcase. He's fallen in love with someone else. To be honest I can't summarize this into something interesting because I did not like this book. I started skimming a third of the way through. Same things over and over and over. Karla wants Jason to borrow money from her father. Her father and Jason do not like each other. Jason develops feelings for someone else. But will not communicate with his wife at all! It was frustrating! You guys are married, communicate with each other. TALK. The twists were ridiculous. This was just a horrible read for me. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC. 2/5.

Between the Lies

Chloe has just come out of a coma. She has no memory of what happened to her and she doesn't recognize the strangers that call themselves her family. As she returns to her parents home to recover, she begins to uncover their secrets and lies and starts to remember her old life and what she lost. I saw this on Netgalley and decided not to request it because it sounds like so many others I've read. But then I got an invite to read it, so I figured why not. It started off good. I was very interested to find out what Chloe's family was hiding and why. It's not a bad book, but there was nothing special about it to make it stand out. Some decent twists and suspense, but it's also slow-moving and repetitious and boring in spots. Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for my copy.  3/5.

Lost You

Three years ago Libby's husband left her and their infant son Ethan. She's been struggling to launch her writing career while also taking care of Ethan. But now things are looking up and mother and son are on their way to have some fun on vacation. Although it's not much fun looking over your shoulder every minute. Libby has never told anyone about what happened when Ethan was born, and no one could find her at a faraway resort, right? Wrong. Ethan wanders into an elevator and disappears. CCTV footage shows an adult leading Ethan away by the hand. When then woman and Ethan are found hours later, the woman tells everyone she's Ethan's mother. I'm not quite sure what I was expecting, but I know this wasn't it. It starts off intense and gripping. Libby loves her son Ethan and is very attentive, but all it takes is the blink of an eye to lose him. So what's going on?! Who is this woman who has Ethan and how is she his mother?! The book was even...

I Know You

Taylor has just moved to London from California for a fresh start with her husband. They have a baby on the way, and her husband spends a lot of time away from home due to work, so Taylor is desperate for friends. She joins a walking group and a book club. She meets four different friends - Simon, Anna, Sarah, and Caroline. And they all seem to have secrets of their own. This was good! It's told from Taylor's point-of-view, but every now and then we'd get a glimpse into the mind of a stalker. They want to ruin someone's life and they're using this person's social media as a weapon. Who is this person?! The author would feed us a little morsel of information and it drove me crazy, I couldn't stand not knowing what was going on! But to be honest, I enjoyed the book better when I had that suspense. It just wasn't the same when I got to the big reveal. It was clever, but I liked it better when I didn't know. I loved the suspense. Great char...

And Then You Were Gone

Emily Firestone finally has her bipolar disorder under control. She has her own place, a job she loves, and she has a wonderful boyfriend named Paolo. Although Emily doesn't particularly like the water, she agrees to a weekend sailing trip with him. He's an excellent swimmer, so when Emily wakes the next morning in the middle out the water with Paolo nowhere to be found she knows he didn't drown. But what else could have happened? As the days go by Emily is starting to believe that Paolo was murdered. And the police believe she's the murderer. This was a quick read. The author lost me towards the end. It just seemed too much, too convenient, too predictable. I couldn't wait to find out what happened to Paolo. Emily's mind is racing, she's frantic, she has to find answers and find them soon and it's easy to get caught up in the rush with her. I was rooting for her. But sadly, this book lacked that oomph I was hoping for that would make it an...

The Escape Room

Vincent, Jules, Sam and Sylvie are high-flyers in the cutthroat world of Wall Street finance. They'll do anything to get more money. They're called into an empty building on a Friday night under the guise of a compulsory team-building escape room exercise. These four ruthless individuals have to set aside their rivalries and work together to solve the clues that will release them from the elevator. Tempers fray and the clues aren't getting any easier. The final puzzle for them to solve - which one of them is a killer? Ooh! This was fantastic! The very beginning grabs you and doesn't let go until the very end. It goes back and forth between four money/power-hungry people who work crazy hours and will do whatever it takes to keep living in the lap of luxury and Sara Hall who, once upon a time, worked with these people. What happened to her?! Both stories were excellent. They were so thick with tension. I didn't get far into the book when I just wanted it to be over - ...

The Temp

Carrie is a successful TV producer. She has a perfect husband and together they have a perfect life. Until they learn that Carrie is pregnant and wants to keep the baby. She's worried she'll lose her job and when a temp, Emma, is found to take over while she's on maternity leave Carrie becomes even more worried that Emma doesn't only want her job, but she wants her entire life. Sometimes when I finish a book I wonder what it was about the blurb that drew me towards it in the first place. I guess going behind the scenes of a hit TV show sounds interesting and what is young Emma really after? Unfortunately, in this case, going behind the scenes wasn't interesting and I couldn't care less what Emma was doing. I didn't care about any of them. Dull, one-dimensional characters doing and saying the same things over and over and over. It was all so boring! Every bit of it, right from the very beginning, boring. It's slow and far-fetched. Just after the halfway p...
