Murder in Cherry Hills

Kat Harper has recently returned to her hometown of Cherry Hills, Washington. She notices her neighbour's cat, Matilda, in the hallway of their apartment building. The door is ajar and Kat discovers poor Mrs. Tinsdale's body. Kat and Matilda will have to work together to solve the mystery of who would want Mrs. Tinsdale dead. This was short and light. Not a whole lot of depth or action - the main character doesn't really put herself in danger, but it is a promising start to the series. Kat is a likeable character. There's also an actual cat, that's always a good thing. I look forward to reading more from the Cozy Cat Caper series. 4/5.

I'll Be Watching You

Leah is a popular and beautiful teenager and she's nervous about starting her first day of school tomorrow. She decides to take a moonlit paddle on the beach of her mother's inn, The Black Dolphin. She disappears without a trace. The police believe it to be death by drowning. Her mother, Emmy, is devastated. In the days that follow, she finds a blog her daughter created as well as pornographic pictures that hint at a secret relationship with an older man. Emmy is suspicious of everyone and she's hellbent on finding out who this monster is. I was drawn in right from the start. Great writing, perfect pacing, nice setting, believable characters and believable situations, suspenseful. I couldn't wait to find out what was going on! I definitely had a lot of different emotions throughout this book. And I absolutely fell in love with the dog, Bo! 4/5.

The Time for Murder is Meow

Crishell "Shell" McMillan has decided to give up acting when her TV series gets cancelled. Her aunt has just passed away and left Shell her pet shop - the Purr N' Bark. Shell has lots to do before the re-opening, but being a suspect in a murder investigation wasn't on her list. Shell was upset one of the museum board members didn't want to display her late aunt's collection of Cary Grant posters due to a long-standing feud, but it seems to be the perfect set-up for someone to get away with murder. This had potential but just lacked that special something that could put it over the top. I liked the idea of a retired young actress inheriting her aunt's pet shop in a small town. I loved that there are two cats, but their behaviour wasn't always catlike, it was forced and that takes away from the flow of the story. It was easy to read, fun and I'll keep my eyes open for the second in the series. Thank you to Netgalley and Midnight Ink for

The Favorite Daughter

Jane Harris has the perfect home located in an oceanfront gated community. She has the perfect family. But one year ago Jane's oldest daughter, Mary, died and she's been grieving and getting through the days in a haze of anti-depressants. But all that's about to change. It's time to live again. A memorial has been planned for Mary and three days after that her youngest daughter, Betsy, is going to graduate high school. It seems as though Jane's husband and daughter have changed in the last year. They're difficult, unlike Mary who was always such a good girl. Jane thinks there's something up and that someone knows more about the night Mary died. I loved "Best Day Ever" so I was very excited to get my hands on this book. I was not disappointed at all! I writing was excellent. The main character got under my skin. If you loved "Best Day Ever" or love psychological thrillers do not hesitate to pick this one up! I don't even

Dear Wife

Beth Murphy has been preparing for this day for almost a year, she's given this plan a lot of thought. One small slip and her husband will find her. A couple hundred miles away, Jeffrey returns home to an empty house. His wife, Sabine Hardison, is missing. She has taken almost nothing with her. Her abandoned car is the only evidence the police have. They're searching for leads but the case isn't that simple. Who's Beth? Where is Sabine? The detective on the case will stop at nothing to bring the missing woman home. This gripped me from page one. It's a well-written, suspenseful and compulsive read. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The characters felt real to me and their situations made me feel many different things. The desperation was definitely palpable. There's one part in the book where I literally said 'oh my God!' So Good! 5/5.

Emeralds and Envy

Emma Madison's dream of launching her career as a jewellery designer has come true. She loves junkin' for old beads and baubles so she can give them new life. Emma had a good morning at a garage sale and decides to swing by the antiques shop her friend owns to share her finds, but she wasn't prepared to learn that her friend, Tina, has been murdered there at the shop. Emma wants the murderer locked up but it seems as though the police aren't finding any leads, so she uses her newspaper reporting experience to assist them. Someone doesn't want Emma snooping around, but Emma is determined to find the person responsible for Tina's death, no matter what. This book was filled with interesting things and creative characters - jewellery makers, painters, weavers, antiques, fashion and food. It's a small town so there's no shortage of gossip, but who would want Tina dead?! I couldn't figure it out. The writing was good which made it a fast and

The Perfect Roommate

Meadow's poor and an introvert and she has found an ad looking for a roommate. She's on her way to check out the place and meet her potential new roommate, Lauren. Lauren is everything Meadow isn't - wealthy, stylish, pretty, sophisticated. But Meadow is in luck; Lauren wants her to be her roommate and also invites her into her social circle. Meadow's thinking she could get used to this, and she likes her new friend - until she catches her doing something she shouldn't be doing. This was on my wishlist for a while and I wanted it so bad and I have no idea why I never got it. I was over the moon when I found it in my daily email for book deals and it was free! I was hooked from the very first page. The writing is great and it's fun. The characters felt real, they were not without quirks. There's lots of uneasiness and tension. I could relate to Meadow more than I'd like to admit. A very entertaining page-turner. I'm sorry I didn't re

The Secret of Seaside

Paige Comber dreams of running off to Paris to train at the Cordon Bleu, but it won't happen this summer. She's stuck running her granny's coffee shop in the small, sleepy island village of Seaside. But when a handsome stranger named Nate shows up at the shop, the summer suddenly doesn't seem so bad. Until Paige discovers Nate's uncle's body washed up on the beach and Nate is thrown in jail for the murder. Paige knows Nate didn't do it, so it's up to her to find out who did. I was browsing through my ebooks for quite a while, reading a sentence and thinking 'no this isn't what I want to read right now' when I came across this freebie I found on Amazon. I was immediately hooked. The writing was fun. I loved the setting. The characters were great. It definitely hit the spot. I was very pleasantly surprised with this gem and I'm looking forward to more! 5/5.

The Marriage Trap

This starts off with Karla watching her husband pack his suitcase. He's fallen in love with someone else. To be honest I can't summarize this into something interesting because I did not like this book. I started skimming a third of the way through. Same things over and over and over. Karla wants Jason to borrow money from her father. Her father and Jason do not like each other. Jason develops feelings for someone else. But will not communicate with his wife at all! It was frustrating! You guys are married, communicate with each other. TALK. The twists were ridiculous. This was just a horrible read for me. Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for an ARC. 2/5.

Claws of Action

Lara and Aunt Fran are preparing for the official opening of the reading room - a cozy place where kids can cuddle up with a cat and a book at the High Cliff Shelter for Cats. But the health inspector, Evonda Fray, shows up and says that the shelter qualifies as a cat café and that it must be shut down. When Evonda is found dead clutching a copy of the cease-and-desist order, suspicion falls on Lara and Aunt Fran. It's up to Lara to find the killer. I finished a five-star book before picking this one up and I could see the flaws in the writing, but it is a cozy and it did what it was supposed to do. The thing that drove me crazy was the shortened words - sitch, pics, sibs. I can't stand it!! This book has the same likable characters as before, lots of cats and the mystery was good. I liked getting the story on the unlikable victim, it was interesting to see how she ended up a miserable person (who, of course, did not deserve to die.) Thank you to Netgalley and Lyr
